Shiatsu is a healing art originating in Japan; literally the word means «finger (shi) pressure (atsu)». Shiatsu is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, rooted in the concept of Ki (vital energy), and uses the same meridian system (energy lines) as in acupuncture. Throughout this massage, the patient lies clothed on a padded floor mat. The therapist uses thumbs, fingers, palms, elbows, forearms, knees, and/or feet to apply pressure to specific meridians and acupoints to balance the flow of Ki. Meridian stretches and joint mobilizations are also included. Shiatsu promotes the body’s natural ability to balance and heal itself; it can be helpful in preventing and treating acute/chronic musculoskeletal pain and internal medicine conditions. Zen Shiatsu is a specific style that follows the philosophical ideas and teachings of Shizuto Masunaga. It focuses on an immediate and direct feeling for the distribution of Ki in the meridians, diagnostic palpation of the Hara (abdomen), and the psycho-emotional correlations to the meridians. Zen Shiatsu is an holistic healing art, an experience that touches the patient’s physical body, emotions, mind, and spirit.
Thai-Yoga Massage has its roots in the Ayurvedic traditions of ancient India, and more recently developed into its present form in Thailand. Originating from a yogic background, the aim of this massage is to balance the flow of prana (vital-energy) by stimulating the body’s sen (energy lines) through pressure with thumbs, palms, elbows, knees, and/or feet as well as joint mobilizations. The characteristic of Thai-Yoga Massage is the inclusion of deep stretches similar to hatha yoga asanas. Thai-Yoga Massage is a deeply relaxing yet dynamic form of bodywork throughout which the therapist moves in a rhythmical dance manner around the patient who lies clothed on a padded floor mat.
This relaxing, full-body oil massage uses the traditional methods of kneading and stroking.
